So what makes GREAT Graphic Design? As I mentioned in my previous BLOG Sydney Graphic Design, there is little argument when it comes to great design. It evokes visual, emotional and physical responses within the viewer. This takes talent, experience and passion to deliver a design of this capacity regardless of how “simple” it may appear. In fact often the simpler the design the more advanced it is.
Most graphic designers have had some form of education or training to develop their craft. This doesn’t mean you need to be a natural artist or amazing illustrator in order to perfect the art of Graphic Design, however you do need to know some of the basic elements of art and design.
Understanding the elements and principles of design will help you communicate your designs more effectively which in turn improves the quality of the design. These key elements include: Line, Shape, Size, Direction, Colour, Texture and Value. The key principles include: Alignment, Balance, Contrast, Repetition, Hierarchy, Movement and Tension.

Good design will control the eye’s movement through the composition in a predetermined order. Great design will capture immediate attention, control the visual flow, convey necessary information and evoke emotional and/or physical responses.
In upcoming BLOGS we will go through the design elements and principles in more detail giving you a better understanding of what you need to do to make your design great!
